Royally proud of our Jubilee role

14th June 2012

We get a lot of pleasure from our clients’ successes. When they win an award, for example, or secure a major contract or announce record profits.

But we experienced a special frisson of delight in seeing Bruno Peek beaming proudly beside Her Majesty the Queen as she lit the national diamond jubilee beacon.

Pageantmaster for the Diamond Jubilee Beacons project, Bruno co-ordinated the lighting of 4,215 beacons throughout the UK and Commonwealth on June 4th 2012 – a project on which he had worked for two years.

The climax of the project came after that spectacular concert in front of Buckingham Palace when, watched on television by millions of people around the world, Bruno presented the Queen with a massive chunk of sparkling glass - the Jubilee Crystal Diamond. She placed it in a delicate cradle, which spun downwards into a pod, triggering the lighting of the National Beacon in the Mall. A dramatic end to a very special day.

Despite having spent most of the day being interviewed by reporters from newspapers, magazines, radio and television, Bruno stood on stage in his uniform looking cool and composed, where most of us would have been a jittering bags of nerves.

In the following morning’s papers there he was, pictured on stage with the Queen . . . and Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Sir Tom Jones, Jules Holland, Jessie J, Stevie Wonder and will.i.am.

Now if you’d been helping Bruno with his PR and media liaison in the weeks leading up to this wouldn’t you be hugging yourself with pleasure at the sight of all this? Well, we did. We were proud of his achievement, delighted that everything he had worked so hard for went so well on the day and thrilled to bits that we had been entrusted to play a small part in this memorable occasion.
