MBE for Michael in New Year Honours

Wednesday 4th January 2012

It has been a remarkable year for Michael Muskett who, after notching up 50 years in the accountancy business, was made an MBE in the New Year Honours List for his services to social enterprise aid and the local community.

Michael is a senior partner in East Anglia for PKF Accountants and business advisers and is based at its Great Yarmouth office.

Over the decades, the 66-year-old from West Somerton has helped to raise thousands of pounds for local and regional charities.

He began his career in Great Yarmouth in 1961 when he joined what was then Tunbridge & Groom accountants. He studied and took his exams in his own time and was made a partner in 1978.

Among many other interests away from PKF's offices at Beacon Park, Great Yarmouth, he is chairman of NWES and a keen follower of Norwich City Football Club.

On New Year's Eve at Carrow Road, Michael presented the Canaries’ Youth Academy with a cheque for £16,000 raised by the Norwich City FC Ambassadors' Club.

PKF organised fund-raising events throughout 2011 for Macmillan Cancer Support and during the summer raised £11,000 for the Royal British Legion at a Poppy Ball in Great Yarmouth.

Asked why he thought he had been honoured, he said: "I suppose I have done 50 years in the firm and I have done a lot of charity work. I am also chairman of NWES. I assume it is a combination of these and my involvement in the business community. I really didn’t expect it at all."
