TV presenter opens Centre 81 fete

Tuesday 23rd August 2011

Centre 81's annual summer fete raised more than £2,000 in spite of being held away from its own premises for the first time.

Lynn Grove High School, Gorleston, played host to the event which drew enthusiastic support for a wide range of attractions and stalls.

It was officially opened by Anglia TV presenter Jonathan Wills who said that Centre 81 was the first organisation he met when he moved to the region and he had retained an interest ever since.

He praised the quality of the work done at the skills centre for people with physical or sensory disabilities and said his visits were always inspiring and humbling occasions. He was delighted to be involved in a year when Centre 81 was preparing for its 30th anniversary and had major projects in the pipeline.

Members of the centre organised the fete themselves, helped build and set up stalls and had their own arts and crafts exhibition. Centre staff and drivers from its Door-to-Door bus service volunteered to give up their day off to help out.

"I'm absolutely delighted at the success of this year's fete," said Howard Wynn, chairman of the Centre 81 trustees. "I appreciate the hard work and dedication put into raising such a large amount of money and to everyone who came along to support us. It has been a tremendous boost for all members of staff here."
